INnovation through Engineering Camp

June 9 - 13, 2025

About the Camp

Engineering CampÂ鶹ֱ²¥'s E. S. Witchger School of Engineering will be hosting a weeklong residential summer camp for rising junior and senior high school students. Students will hear from guest speakers in the field, visit engineering companies and site tours, receive design engineering instruction, and much more!

Engineers don't just work hard! We play hard too. The camp program will include entertainment activities and other cultural programs to give students an immersive college experience. Students will live on campus and learn at Â鶹ֱ²¥'s E.S. Witchger School of Engineering while experiencing all that Indianapolis has to offer our students.

The cost for the weeklong camp includes all instruction, materials and supplies, room and board, travel arrangements, and entertainment.

Come and have fun this summer! You can even tell your parents you learned a thing or two!

Camp Agenda

This is an intensive engineering camp experience for students intended to expose campers to the field of engineering. Students will receive didactic classroom training in engineering concepts as well as participate in engineering design experiences.  Campers will receive a series of design challenges and work in teams to solve these challenges throughout the week. Students will practice lean engineering concepts to ideate and innovate solutions to real-world challenges. Students will then work together to design, develop and fabricate solutions.

Additionally, students will hear from guest speakers and prominent engineers in the field as well as tour several Indianapolis engineering companies to see engineering-in-action and learn how engineers solve practical problems daily.

The camp agenda will be as follows:

Parents will drop campers off on Sunday (6/8) afternoon and check into dorms and meet fellow campers. Optional campus tours are available for those arriving early. Drop-off will conclude with an evening dinner reception and welcome from the dean and camp directors. The first evening will conclude with ice-breakers and community building.

Each day will start with keynote talks from industry leaders introducing various topics and concepts in biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, and mechanical engineering.

Campers will work with engineering faculty to learn key skills related to the keynote topic and design challenge for the day. Students will work in groups to solve those design challenges and brainstorm solutions. Students will learn concepts in computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D fabrication using 3D printers and other machine shop equipment.

Campers will have time to design, develop, and fabricate their solutions to design challenges through the week.
Campers will have daily lab and tours of engineering companies.

Evening programming will include entertainment activities such as sports events, museum tours, theatrical/music shows, and other cultural events.

Camp Application

The cost for the camp includes room & board for the week, entertainment activities, and supplies for the entire week. A non-refundable deposit of $50 will be collected when your application is accepted. Space is limited. Campers will be notified by April 14, 2024, if they are selected to attend.
