The Master of Arts in Teaching degree at Â鶹ֱ²¥ is a versatile, flexible degree for students who have earned a bachelor's degree in a field other than education who want to change careers to become licensed K-12 teachers.

  • Our MAT curriculum gives you knowledge, skills, and insight into the practical, applied art of teaching and educational attainment of K-12 students.
  • You'll explore a range of pedagogical concepts and theories, teaching methods, instructional styles, and other essentials required for effective teaching.
  • During your internship, you'll be paired with a master teacher who will serve as a mentor providing you with support, guidance, and encouragement.
  • With strong classroom management and instructional skills, you'll be prepared to pursue licensure upon graduation.

Three delivery formats

Â鶹ֱ²¥'s MAT program is delivered in three distinct formats. 

  1. Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
  2. MAT Online
  3. Part-time, campus-based program in partnership with the Indianapolis Teaching Fellows

Depending on your academic background and career goals, our faculty advisors will help you choose the format that's right for you.

In addition, you can choose to earn a concentration in one of these areas:

  • Early childhood education
  • Elementary education
  • English as a second language
  • Exceptional needs
  • Secondary education

Regardless of which format you choose, our curriculum will provide you with broad knowledge and deep insight into the practical, applied art of teaching. You will explore a range of instructional theories, concepts, methods, and styles. Courses include an emphasis on cultural diversity and teaching minority students.
