Civic Leadership Minor – Lead, Inspire, and Make a Difference 

Ready to make an impact? The Civic Leadership Minor* empowers you with the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience to become a leader who can navigate complex issues, communicate effectively, and drive positive change. This innovative minor is built for students who are passionate about understanding society, exploring ethical leadership, and shaping a brighter future.

Build Your Knowledge, Step by Step 

With our laddered coursework, you’ll start with foundational classes and work your way up to advanced topics and real-world experiences. Each course challenges you to think critically, work collaboratively, and engage deeply in today’s most pressing civic and ethical issues. 

  • CIV 101: Moral Capitalism (Fall): Understand the intersection of capitalism and ethics, exploring how businesses can contribute positively to society. 
  • CIV 132: Information and Media Literacy (Spring): Learn to navigate today’s complex media landscape, develop critical media skills, and understand the power of information. 
  • CIV 211: Business and Civics Competition (Fall): Take on real-world challenges in civics and business, honing your skills in problem-solving and teamwork. 
  • CIV 240: Legacies of Liberty (Spring): Dive into the history of liberty, democracy, and civic values, examining how these ideas shape our world today. 
  • CIV 300: Adaptive Leadership (Fall) or CIV 321: Business/Applied Ethics (Spring): Choose between exploring adaptive leadership skills or learning the ethical decision-making process in a business context. 
  • CIV 460: Internship / Field Work / Capstone Project (Fall or Spring): Put theory into action! Gain hands-on experience through internships, fieldwork, or a capstone project that lets you apply what you’ve learned in a real-world setting. 

Beyond the Classroom – Real-World Experiences 

At Â鶹ֱ²¥, leadership goes beyond the classroom. This minor offers valuable experiential learning opportunities to help you stand out. 

  • Cross-Curricular Experiences: Earn extra credentials in Adaptive Leadership and Applied Ethics, integrated throughout your coursework. 
  • Co-Curricular Activities: Participate in Speech and Debate, Model United Nations, and Ethics Bowl to sharpen your speaking, critical thinking, and collaboration skills.
