Yuja

At the beginning of 2023, Â鶹ֱ²¥ is beginning a switch from Panopto to Yuja. The CTL will be doing virtual trainings all throughout the Spring term to make sure everyone is ready for the switch. You can see an updated list of our scheduled trainings covering Yuja by .

Just like Panopto, Yuja is a video capture software and a video Content Management System that integrates directly in Canvas. It is used to record video presentations, broadcast live streams, manage your existing video files, and stream your video content to any device.

Just like with Panopto, you can create recordings by using an installed computer program (Yuja Software Capture) or via a browser version of the capture (Browser Capture Studio). Browser versions are okay for short videos but you will want to make sure you use the installed program for longer ones. You will also have more options over capture settings if you use the full program rather than the browser capture.

Organizing Yuja Recordings

One of the most significant differences between Panopto and Yuja is how your videos are organized and shared. With Panopto, videos were created and then organized into course folders. This system caused difficulty when users wanted to share a video with another course, whether in the same term or a later one.

Yuja's priority is allowing the instructor to organize their videos based on their own organization system and then allowing them to easily share those videos in Canvas via links in modules or pages, or as embedded videos directly on a Canvas page.

If you are used to organizing your videos in a different manner or just have questions you would like answered, the CTL is offering personalized migration plan meetings with Blake Ide.

To share a Yuja video into a Module:

  1. Go to your Canvas course.
  2. Go to the module where you want to add the video.
  3. Click the + button.
  4. Select External Tool.
  5. Select Yuja from the menu (it will be at the bottom of the alphabetized menu).
  6. When the Yuja Media Chooser comes up, search for and select the video you want to share.
  7. After selecting the video, you can choose whether to change the name of the video or just click Add Item.

To share a Yuja video on a Canvas page (as an embedded video):

  1. Go to your Canvas Course.
  2. Go to the Page where you want to add the video.
  3. Put your cursor on the page where you want the video to appear.
  4. Click Tools.
  5. Click on Apps (if Yuja does not already appear).
  6. Select Yuja to launch the Media Chooser.
  7. When the Yuja Media Chooser comes up, search for and select the video you want to share.
  8. Select Insert Content.

If you have already added a video using Yuja, then you can skip step 5. You may also see the Yuja icon (see the image below) in the menu bar for the text box. If you see this, you can click this to skip steps 4-6.
