Â鶹ֱ²¥ Medical Student Shines Bright as a Public Policy Advocate for Cancer Patients

Congratulations to second-year Â鶹ֱ²¥ College of Osteopathic Joseph AsperMedicine  student and Indiana Osteopathic Association member Joseph Asper! In 2022, Asper helped pass an important bone marrow education legislation in Indiana, addressing the inequity minority populations face when finding a match. The American Osteopathic Association recognized his excellence in public policy advocacy and support for the osteopathic profession, and has awarded him the 2023 Individual Excellence in Advocacy Award.

In all of his hours of studying and classes he knows there is more out there. “Even as a medical student, you have the ability to influence politics and the duty to advocate for what is needed in society,” Asper said. He has truly embraced what it means to live the Franciscan value of Dignity of the Individual, and to be a voice for those who can’t speak up for themselves.  Congratulations for all you've done and will continue to do!
